"Linger is an utterly bone-chilling, compulsive read that will grip you by the throat from the very first page. One of the scariest stories I've read in a long, long time. You don't want to miss this captivating new series!"
~Tess Gerritsen, New York Times Bestselling Author of the Rizzoli & Isles series

THEY SEE WHAT NO ONE ELSE SEES

Every crime scene has a smell. A look. A trail of DNA.

It also has a feel. An emotional residue that lingers... floating unseen, like bacteria in the air, just waiting to be absorbed. To be experienced. To be interpreted.

And only the man and the boy know this.

Veteran major crimes detective, Kate Messenger, has a problem on her hands six bodies--father, mother, three children and the family dog--all slaughtered in their own home, with not a single clue or a shred of DNA that points to the butcher who killed them. But late one night, as she's visiting what the newspapers have dubbed the House of Pain, Kate finds a couple of intruders at her crime scene a man and a young blind boy who have no real explanation for their presence there.

In the hours that follow, Kate will discover that this is no ordinary boy--not by a long shot--and his ability to "read" the lingering residue left the killer and his victims will not only open some old and very tender wounds, but may also help her find a killer who has been watching her every move...

As Kate Messenger is investigating a muder of a family , she is disturbed by what she sees. It is a violent , bloody vicious and unnerving scene that sends chills up your spine as the brutal display of vengeance is evident by the state of the bodies of the family. Kate notices that there is something out of place as she is searching through the house. A young boy, named Christopher and his guardian are trespassing on the murder scene. Why would these unlikely people be doing here at a muder scene ? Have they come back to gawk at the scene or do they know something that could help the investigation?

Kate will soon realize that Christopher has a unique gift that she will discover to be useful in her need to find the killer of the Brandford family. Kate asks Christopher. "Who are you. Where did you come from? His words were eerie as he answered , "The only thing that matters is where we're going ."

This is a psychological story that will have you on the edge of your seat looking over your shoulder. It is so brilliantly written with a dark, menacing unknown power that you are thrust into the deep reaches of the supernatural. Kate's character is so well written as a strong woman with a fierce determination for the truth . Chris has an ability to see things others can't. What does Chris see and hear that others can't? Is it dangerous to try to go after this beast he sees?

When Kate, Chris and Noah return to the Brandford house , something so sinister and evil will be revealed that it will have you shaking with anticipation. What was " the sound that was both horrifying and heartbreaking and sent a chill straight through Kate's central nervous system?" Were did that evil sound come from? What will happen when Kate touches Chris's fingers?

This book is filled with twists and turns that will make readers gasp as they continue to delve into the unknown world that Kate has entered. The scenes come alive as the words are so vivid and real. I have not read a book this intense and filled with intrigue in a long time. I could not put this book down . When I finished I knew I had read one of the scariest , most intense , well written books ever published.

Linger Dying is a Wild Night A Linger Thriller Book 1 edition by Edward Fallon Robert Gregory Browne Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Incredible book in an incredible series. The characters are believable, even with the paranormal events, and their struggle to destroy an incredibly evil killer is riveting. I've read every book in this series and can't wait for the next one. The scenes and violence level can get a bit graphic, but nothing I could handle, but NOT for kids.
Great writing, great plots, and character development!
I wish there was a spot for developing characters. As this isn't a stand-alone story, we only get bits and pieces of personal motivations - but the characters are likable and reasonably true.
The novel reminded me, in a great way, of Dean Koontz. Troubled heroes with questionable motives; a dark, supernatural thread; a need for redemption/revenge against a seemingly insurmountable force and an underlying sense of hope and wonder.
It's a bit stilted in areas, and not as well written as Koontz, but a quick and enjoyable read - am looking forward to the next novel.
A good start to a new series -- psychic type of energy without all the flourishes and bells -- has a new lieutenant heading a murder team shaking her head and checking her reality. As she races to close a gruesome family murder, the two-decades old murder of her mother begins to be tied into a man called the "beast" who has been killing throughout the country for at least that long. And how is a man and a boy involved in all of this? Taut writing, an intriguing mix of characters and softly "paranormal" visions keep this a full-on page turner.
As an ex-NYC cop I generally dislike cop books written by civilians because the authors get their expertise from watch entertaining, but ultimately silly TV cop shows; it shows in the dialogue. And don't get me started on the avalanche of inane super-policewoman books. That said I was most impressed by the authors of Dying is a Wild Night. Their spot on dialogue demonstrates to me a real understanding of the police subculture. For the first time in a long time I found a female detective protagonist believable. Bottom line I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
This book started out like almost any police/murder mystery novel and then took an immediate tire-screeching turn into the Twilight Zone.

Kate, the police Lieutenant, is in the midst of investigating a horrendous murder or a seemingly innocent and randomly chosen family. She encounters an older man and an 11 year old blind boy at the scene after having a hunch she needed to go back for a second look. Twilight Zone or Through the Looking Glass - your call. But things get strange very quickly afterwards. I think I found a new series to enjoy!
I heard so many good things about this series that I had to give it a try. Knowing it was a thriller with a paranormal element, I started the first chapter with patience and a certain degree of skepticism. I was worried this may be a chase to find a monster lurking in the darkness but no mystical creature equals the unnerving capability of the horror humans can inflict on each other. The flawless writing pulled me in immediately. The images this author creates are so vivid I felt like I was in the center of every scene. The characters are developed with such detail but nothing about them is revealed until the story needs it to be.

The intriguing theme of this story isn't the acceptance of the unknown but the fear that realism can be more terrifying than the unimaginable and if the power of truth can only find its path through innocence. I can't wait to read the continuation of the series
